Our Vital Volunteers

You’ve likely heard the saying:  Kind hearts are the garden; kind thoughts are the roots; kind words are the blossoms; kind deeds are the fruit.  We are abundantly showered in daily volunteer blessings at LME with the BEST Volunteers in the MISD Garden!

volunteers1We celebrated our All-Star Volunteers today with a huge Miller Rally, presentation, and special breakfast.  Under the direction of music teacher, Amber Grant, the Miller Singers performed a delightful piece for all to enJOY.  Special grade level “speakers” shared various heartwarming words of thanks while the entire student body cheered on them on during the Rally. Everyone enJOYed the scrumptious breakfast provided our entire LME staff.

Team Miller was on their top game today.  Special thanks to volunteers2our Volunteer Committee who orchestrated this big event…Ms. Cole and team, you truly blossomed today!

There is something profoundly majestic in young learners gathering as an entire student body to show their appreciation to our daily volunteers.  THANK YOU seems so small compared to all they do for and with us…we are so grateful for the dedicated time, talents, gifts, and service our All-Star volunteers and MVPs provide each day at LME!  Here’s hoping you find a way to volunteer soon.  🙂

Volunteers are vital!

volunteers1You may have heard the saying, “Volunteers don’t get paid because they’re worthless but because they’re priceless.”  We are so blessed at LME to have the hardest working volunteers in our growing learning community everyday!  Just today, these ladies answered the call to assist with our upcoming LME “The POWER of Miller” fundraiser kick-off by preparing family packets to go home tomorrow (more on this tomorrow).  Conversation, laughter, and great work ensued; they had the job completed in no time and asked for more!  🙂  volunteers2Special thanks today goes to Jennifer Davis, Rachel Hedgcoth, Brandy Ricketts, Sherry Emerson, Cathy Jackson, Jennifer Campbell, Amy Hubbard, and Sarah Johnson.  Mrs. Huff says, “You ROCK!”  🙂

Tonight, we had several of our Head Start families participate in their first family meeting of the school year.  Thanks to two of our HS moms for volunteering to represent our campus and program on the Region 10 District Policy Council tonight too!

As our own Mrs. Miller always says, “The goal is simple…to help you achieve yours.”  We are truly grateful to our vital volunteers who help us achieve all our goals everyday!

Note:  We need our D.A.D.S. to answer the call and help us out each morning!  Please join us in the car lines to greet and assist our learners coming into the building each day.

LME PTO rocks!

We are blessed at LME with a PTO organization who supports and encourages our daily school work and campus programs.  Not only does the Board do everything within their power to ensure we have the best, they actively demonstrate what it means to be the BEST everyday.  PTO-logo-blue-verticalBoard members this year are:  Nicole Blackmon, Amy Byers, Gayle Turner, Cara Roberson, Heather Prather, Christy Clenney, Kristina West, Khristy Hullet, Sarah Johnson, Teresa Heath, and Kim Huff.  They each invite you to share your feedback and ideas as they strive to improve performance and communications within our gorwing learning community.

Parents, you recently received a packet of important PTO information to review sharing the various ways you can be involved this year.  Please take a moment to read and return your completed forms (including your membership application) to join us this year as we “Knock One Out of the Park for LME!”

Likewise, LME Spirit Wear orders are in full swing at this time.  Order forms went home in first-day packets, but the front office will hook you up as well.  The black shirts feature a panther with the slogan:  The BEST things come in blue-n-white!  T-shirts, hoodies, wristbands, and water bottles are all for sale.  Orders should be submitted by the end of September.

Fun fact:  Did you know our LME PTO was instrumental in ensuring we had enough funds to construct our gym Rock Wall before we even opened the LME doors in 2008?  Our PTO literally ROCKS!  We could never do the extraordinary work without the daily assistance of our active PTO.  Please join our staff in the many activities by serving where you can throughout the coming year…and special thanks to the leaders of our LME PTO!

Volunteers are Vital!

It’s National Volunteer Month and we’re celebrating in a big way here at LME!  Tomorrow is our big Miller Volunteer Rally of Thanks.  Parents, grandparents, and community members are joining us for our usual Friday Miller Rally followed by a special breakfast with entertainment and treats.  It’s our simple way of saying a huge THANKS for all the support, smart work, IMG_0040assistance, and love our volunteers provide daily to our learning community.  Why, just today, we had 29 volunteers in our LME hallways hanging over 3,600 pieces of artwork (several for each child) in anticipation of our big Fine Arts Show and Gallery next week!  WHEW!

Our learners are excited to share their thanks and our staff is blessed and grateful for volunteer assistance everyday!  Here’s hoping you thank a volunteer in your life today because, as one young friend noted, “Volunteers are vital, Mrs. Van!”  🙂

Thanks, Volunteers!

Volunteers were really riding the waves here at Miller today!  In keeping with our Shark and the Goldfish theme this year, our volunteers were treated to feasting, fun, and festivities while surfing through lunch during this splashy event!  Miller Singers and Student Honor Council provided special entertainment, students served guests from a scrumptious buffet at the captain’s table, and door prizes were awarded to volunteers throughout the afternoon.  As previously shared, our volunteers are vital to our daily work with learners and their classroom leaders.  Please enJOY these remarkable memories of this annual event and THANKS to our many volunteers at LaRue Miller Elementary!

Volunteers are vital!

It’s National Volunteer Week and we celebrate each year in a big way here at LME!  Our annual volunteer salute and luncheon is tomorrow (and I’ll share more then), but learners and their classroom leaders have been preparing tributes, decorations, surprises, and food for the past week.  I stopped by several classrooms this week to ask this vital question:  What is a volunteer?

  • Volunteers helps us do math all the time.
  • They are reading buddies and mystery readers.
  • This one lady offers help in the cafe during lunch.
  • They throw us great parties and events with games and give us treats to share with others.
  • They get really dirty with our class projects and hang our artwork for others to enjoy.
  • They raise money for our school and all the children get to spend it.
  • Volunteers are a mystery because it’s a mystery why they want to volunteer.
  • They teach us when my teacher has to go to the bathroom.
  • They never get paid except in hugs and smiles from everyone.
  • They aren’t paid because they’re worthless but because they’re priceless.  🙂

While these are just a few of the responses, I think you get the idea.  We could NEVER do our daily work here at LME without the time, talents, gifts, and service of our 300+ volunteers each year.  From our active PTO to our DADS program to our weekly/daily helpers who spend countless hours assisting in classrooms, we salute you and thank you…volunteers are vital!
