…and we’re back!

tools1What a blessing to spend the day with our #LoveServeCare Team at LME this year!  Our staff members arrived with lots of enthusiasm, smiles, and energy to get this school year started!  They came with innovative ideas and a quality crafting attitude as we channeled our inner-carpenter skills to create wooden team “toolboxes” for the year.  After doing their summer IMG_5361homework (reading Jon Gordon’s newest book, The Carpenter), we put our Love, Serve, and Care ideas into action.  Using hearts (and hammers), our LME Staff was not only handy but full of fun teamwork.

Be watching for those extra-special carpentry and craftsmanship touches throughout the coming year as we design dreams and build leaders everyday.  Welcome Back, LME!

Note:  We look forward to opening our school doors for our annual Meet The Teacher event this week on Thursday evening.   Our 3rd/4th/5th grade friends will join us from 5:30 to 6:15 and our HS/Kinder/1st/2nd grade friends can stop by from 6:15 to 7:00.

Teaching with Heart

Thirty years ago on National Teacher Appreciation Day, a young learner gifted me with this precious sign.  teaching_heartHer name was Lydia and she (with the help of her momma) made this treasure with a small scrap of material from Lydia’s favorite shirt…she wanted me “to always have a piece of her as part of each class.”  I still wipe a tear just thinking about this precious memory.  When you turn it over, here’s what you can find written on an index card:

You have the HEART of a great teacher with your JOY (teaching how learning is fun and capturing teachable moments with a smile), your WISDOM (teaching truth, character, and integrity), your KINDNESS (teaching encouragement and how to add value to others), your COMPASSION (teaching how and why we need to reach out to others), your GENEROSITY (teaching and touching lives while always giving), your PATIENCE (teaching ways to find better solutions and never giving up), and your PURPOSE (teaching each child to find the treasures inside).  Thanks for sharing how teaching is a work of HEART this year, and every year.

Through the years, I’ve come to appreciate the fact there is definitely an art and a science to teaching; may we never forget to teach with heart!  Thanks to all the teachers from my past, my present, and my future who continuously plant seeds by teaching with heart!  🙂

You know you’re an appreciated teacher if…

It’s true…you can walk our hallways this week at LME and see evidence our teachers are definitely appreciated!  Down came the beautiful student art gallery and up went the all-star decorations for a week of fun.  Take the clever classroom door displays and posters our room parents created and decoratively displayed throughout each hallway.  Our own front office display is evidence enough we are loved; in fact, there are multiple examples of fun evidence all over the building.  Each day is a special baseball-themed event and everyone is invited to participate (several were dressed today as fans in their favorite team shirts and ball caps and provided fan mail to teachers).  Here’s the playbook for the remainder of the week:

  • Tuesday:  Trading Cards and Paparazzi pics
  • Wednesday:  Concession Stand Snacks and vendors (red/white/blue)
  • Thursday:  Special Classroom Equipment and uniforms
  • Friday:  Home Runs and avid fans

Our extraordinary PTO and room parents have ensured teachers have treats all week including two luncheons and special surprises along the way.  The most important part, though, is how our learners share their appreciation everyday with our teachers.  Not a school day goes by that a staff member does not share a precious story, picture, or experience with a learner.  Thanks for sharing your MVPs  (most valuable players), your learners, with us everyday at LME!  🙂

Note:  We’ll roll some beautiful Field Day footage sometime this week for your enJOYment…such a great day last Friday!
