Special gifts of learning…

Fourteen loaded buses…hundreds of students, staff members, bus drivers, and parents… Yes, Team Miller enJOYed our all-campus field trip to The Perot Museum today!  Thanks to all who assisted in planning, designing, and implementing a great adventure for our entire learning community to explore together.  As one little friend shared with me, “It was just Christmaspresentslike opening a bunch of gifts on Christmas morning, Mrs. Van!”

So, here’s your question today:  If your beautifully wrapped gifts contained surprises (other than material ones), what might you find inside these special packages?

May you always open the gift of knowledge each and every day!

Power Friday!

“LaRue Miller Elementary POWER rules the today!”  power1This is how we started a powerful Rally this morning as we presented four special checks to the four organizations chosen by our learning community during our Power of Miller Event this year.  Representatives from PAWS For Reflection, the American Cancer Society, the Parkland Burn Center Camp for Children, and Manna House joined us to receive each check and share some vital information about their work and service as our learners and classroom leaders carefully listened.  It was truly a profound moment for our students to witness firsthand the POWER of giving to others in need.  Thanks to our recipients for spending time with our students; thanks to our LME learning community for raising money to share with others!

misd1Likewise today, our LME staff members enJOYed a special treat sponsored by the Midlothian Education Foundation.  During the recent MISD Employee Drive, our campus staff members raised the most money and were treated to a delicious fiesta of Mexican food prepared by El Fenix.  Thanks, MEF, for honoring us with this opportunity and for the spectacular work you do on behalf our all MISD learners and classroom leaders!

EnJOY the weekend and may the POWER be with you!  🙂

Trunk or Treat?!

trunkdynastyIt was a festive and fun family event this evening as our learning community came out in huge numbers to enJOY our first Trunk or Treat Family Event!  From Trunk Dynasty to Rockin’ Readers, our learners, their families, TrunkTreatand neighbors visited, laughed, and reveled in the evening autumn breeze.  Our LME Book Fair was open and business was booming indeed.  🙂

Thanks to our amazing PTO Board for their vision and organization of this family event.  Thanks to our staff members and 3rdgradeTTfamilies who graciously participated by decorating trunks and sharing amazing treats with so many.  Thanks to all who contributed to an extraordinary opportunity of community fellowship!

PTO…knocks it out of the park!

I had the privilege of spending last evening with our outgoing and incoming PTO Board members.  It’s a Miller PTO tradition for me to have the officers and committee chairpersons over to my house for a home-cooked meal, conversation, fellowship, and some serious planning for the coming school year.  We celebrate successes, bounce clever ideas around, and they openly share concerns experienced throughout the past year.  This reflective conversation enlightens and keeps us grounded as to the growing expectations of our entire LME learning community.

We are truly blessed to have these dedicated parent leaders willing to step up, lead, and support our daily campus initiatives and activities.  We encourage everyone in the coming year to join in the fun by giving your time, talents, and service in whatever way you feel led to further enrich and enhance our learning community.  Thanks, PTO; you always knock it out of the park!
